SAGT and SLSRFR Break Barriers: Historic Debut of Female Referees in Sri Lanka Rugby

South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) development partnership with the Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees (SLSRFR), has enabled a historic first for the sport in the country with two female assistant referees set to officiate on the same day in the Nippon paints A-division league tournament.

Ayesha Perera a former Sri Lanka women’s rugby captain and Charani Liyanage a current national player will make their debut in rugby’s premier tournament Saturday at CH & FC vs Air Force, Navy vs CR & FC respectively..

SAGT has been a committed promoter of female participation in rugby. The company was a long-standing supporter of the Sri Lanka women’s rugby team for several years.

It’s partnership with SLSRFR mandates the referee’s body to develop more female referees on an annual basis with pathways for high-performing women’s referees to the Asia rugby referees panel.
